The story of Audience Lab starts with the director, TT Teo. In his childhood, TT Teo developed a passion for sound systems when his parents first introduced a sound system into their home. Only aged 7 at the time, his newfound love for the technology stayed strong to this day well into his life.
In the late 1980s, Teo started importing and trading sound systems from Singapore and overseas. He was later invited by the then-popular magazine, Hifiplay音响风云, to become a contributor reviewing for sound systems. From there, Teo was exposed to many big brand names and premium sound systems internationally.
In 1995, Teo was engaged by Unik Malaysia, one of the biggest companies in the 1990s, to be their sound consultant, where he was in charge of managing the manufacturing process of premium car speakers. Just a year in, Teo saw the business opportunity in the sound system industry and started his very first company AV Classic SdnBhd in 1996. AV Classic was involved with the designing of self-branded sound systems, whereby the sound systems were manufactured by Niko Sound, a partner manufacturing company that he invested in.
AV Classic’s sound systems were sold in some of the largest electrical appliances stores (Senheng and Courts Mammoth) in Malaysia, and were distributed throughout Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand. With their strong technical expertise in design and production, they slowly expanded their business to produce OEM sound systems for major brands, including Donnoy, Yamaha, Kenwood, and Aiwa. In 2013, Teo started his second company dB Pro Marketing, a company that focuses on the design and installation of professional audio systems.
Three years later, Audience Lab was established.
Teo’s in-depth understanding about sound theory, sound frequency and acoustic knowledge had contributed largely to the success of the companies he established. Today, his experience in the design, manufacturing and trading of sound systems continue to add value to the company. His lifelong commitment in the sound industry has made him one of the most reputable sound specialists in the region – a passion that never fades.
